Talk:Main Page
Recent Changes
- The recent changes section on the main page is redundant, considering we have Special:Recentchanges
- Yes and no, the recent changes thing covers a lot of minor as well as major things, and doesn't present the information in a clear manner, nor is it upfront for all to see, while a recent changes section on the main page is. It no different than having a to-do list page, as anyone can browse and see the dead links to things that are needed...
- The recent changes page can be used to compare revisions side by side with differences highlighted. Being in the navigation pane, the recent changes page is accessible from any where on the wiki. So, it's both clear and accessible.
- I guess I should define terms. When I mean it is not clear, I mean it gives not clear description of what was done. It tells that X page has had changes made, and if, and only if, the editor remembers a brief description of what was done as well as the type of edit. Considering that both those options so far have been rarely used by myself or Eve or anyone else, for that matter, I don't call them clear. Further, most people won't pay a huge amount of attention to sidebar or think to click on the "recent changes" button. Having a news-type section on the front page catches people's eye and tells them that something new it up. Its like the different icons on a forum for new topics and new posts in topics that you haven't read. It catches your eye and reminds you about them, a persistent nav bar rarely does this for most people (hence why PMs give pop-up "you've got a new PM" on most boards).
- Can we please identify ourselves in the Talk sections? Thank you.

Added Intro
Added a little introduction to the main page, I'm going to try add more intro pieces to various articles just to help them flow a bit more and read a bit like lore out of a Warhammer or DnD book. - LC
Reason For Protection
I have semi-protected this page to prevent vandalism. Now only registered users can edit it. However, if I am correct, guests can still post comments on the talk page.

Spam and Protecting
I am reluctant to furthur protect the main page (it is currently restricted to registered users, another level of restriction will make it so only SysOps can edit it) because it ruins the purpose of a wiki, and I believe unregistered users certainly can add to the page. However, I will fully protect this page if spam occurs again. I have blocked the IP of the user that vandalized the main page.
