Dasaria, once a Kingdom under the rule of Siril and his descendants, is now a province under the rule of the Empire of Varana. There is evidence to suggest that it comprises a large portion of the Empire's lands--indeed, the Emperor Marcus chose Nelina to be his bride, once queen of the eastern lands, as an act of peace toward the Dasarian people.

Anthem
From the mountains of Durase,
To Lendose river chaste,
The white glory of Dasar,
Who shines to lands afar,
Glory to Siril, whose golden horn cries true,
Calling o'er sky, the glorious argent and blue.
His sword pointed forward, upon the sloping land,
The breadth of Canas' mace shatters by his hand.
The blighted lands of Exodon's wrath,
Shan't keep us from this one true path.
Holy Anu's glory, shall bring victory at last,
The Crown's good heirs bask within his grace,
Ol' glory to Dasaria,
with honour we rise up to the test
Ol' glory to Dasaria,
In the face of evil we shall ne'er rest
Ol' glory to Dasaria,
Anu watch o'er your righteous sons
Ol' glory to Dasaria,
Till peace does come to all,
and all shall stand as one.
History and Description
Early Dasaria
Very little is known, or written, on the time before the House of Siril and the kingdom of Dasaria. Ancient books of Dasarian lore tell of a band of humans, often referred to as Baraanmen, living in what is now known as the province of Dasaria; led by the virtuous and valorous Siril Firstking. The early Baraanmen, from which the House of Siril may trace its lineage, have been known to live longer lives than average humans, though nothing comparable to the elves of Rian or the dwarves of the Dün'khüvan. It is not known for certain if Siril had founded Dasaria as a kingdom at this time, though it is clear that the arrival of Canas of Exodon and his armies precipitated it.
It is understood that Canas the First, having been promised the lands east of Exodon by Lochwar, made efforts to conquer the entire landmass including, but not limited to, Siril's domain. In response to this threat from the west, Siril presumably amassed an army of his own, challenging and meeting Canas on the marbled steps of the Temple of Ki somewhere in central Dasaria. There, Siril and Canas fought a dreadful battle until the Mace of Canas was destroyed by Siril and upended into the dark and deep waters that surround the Temple of Ki. The shards of the Mace were eventually found and scattered across the land, to be held in trust by some, and with greed by others.
The creation of the kingdom of Dasaria is likely to have occurred upon the defeat of Canas the First, and as such could predate the founding of the Empire. After Siril's victory, Canas retreated to the west, and there founded what would become his greatest legacy in life, and most hated enemy in death: Varana.
Kingdom of Dasaria
After the founding of the kingdom by Siril Firstking, the kingdom of Dasaria would remain a monarchy for centuries. The crown, held by the monarch at the capitol city of Dasar, was passed from one royal heir to the next. Dasaria was protected by the House of Siril for ten generations, ending briefly under the reign of Kallindra I when the city of Dasar was sacked. Since Canas retreated to the west to found his Empire, Dasaria and Varana had exchanged hostilities over the centuries on an intermittent basis; interrupted only by odd bouts of peace, though unlikely to have been officially declared.
Ambition and internal conflict characterised much of Dasaria's domestic politics throughout the long period of her history; little is known of early kingdom politics, but a great deal of information exists on the various conflicting factions and organisations in the later period. All of these factions, at one point or another, disputed over the kingdom's course and direction. This led to a degree of trauma, including the assassination of Holly Fortinbras by an assassin of Nergal, and the devious machinations of the Grub Lord's dominion following the restoration of the Dasarian crown.
On the fall of the the city of Dasar the royal bloodline of the House of Siril disappeared, and with it any semblance of control. With power decentralized from Dasar, each city within the kingdom adopted a degree of autonomy, though sharing amongst themselves a kindred hatred and distrust for the Empire of Varana. It was in the unlikeliest of places where Dasaria's government was reestablished: the predominately agrarian community of Daris. A band of Dasarian adventurers, dubbing themselves the Council of Lords, formed an oligarchy that oversaw the administration of the kingdom in lieu of a monarchy. Unfortunately, twisted with politics, inactivity and distrust for one another, the Council of Lords were largely ineffective in marshaling the resources of the kingdom.
The Reclamation of Dasar and the Nergalite Partition
Sometime before the formation of the Council of Lords, Daris became frequented with many adventurers, glory-seekers, patriots and soldiers-of-fortune. From this conglomerate the principle defenders of Daris, and by proxy, Dasaria, was formed. Shortly after the formation of the Council, a high-ranking member of the Church of Nergal known as Shadow led a band of Dasarian patriots to the ravaged ruins of the city of Dasar in an effort to reclaim it in the name of Dasaria.
The patriots of Dasaria were themselves deceived, and with the city clear of vagrants, Varanite skirmishers, and dangerous monsters, Shadow and his Nergalite kin attempted to seize control. The Dasarians moved to stop him, and representing the Kingdom Captain Kurich of the Redboot Brigade waged a desperate battle against a Dread Knight of Nergal for possession of the city.
In the end e'Marduk was successful, yet by that time Shadow had consolidated power over half of the city. The capitol of Dasaria became partitioned: one side rebuilt and defended by Redboot guardsmen and crusaders, the other occupied by the followers of the Grub Lord.
During the period after the establishment of New Dasar, several factions rose to prominence in Dasaria: the Kingseekers were founded by Holly Fortinbras; the Nergalites peaked politically and militarily; the Renegades of the Forest of Daris consolidated their position to the north of Daris; the Ling Death Squad reasserted itself in the village of Daris and in the outskirts.
Martial Law and the Restoration
After a severe period of ineffectiveness on part of the Council of Lords, the Empire of Varana staged a surprise attack on Daris. Caught unawares, the Emperor's Talon Forces defeated the Dasarian defenders. The village of Daris was razed, and its people slaughtered and scattered. The majority of Daris' defenders were captured.
In a desperate action, the Dasarian captives managed to secure freedom and gain access to one of the ancient Teleporter Obelisks that lay scattered across the kingdom of Dasaria. Using the obelisk, they conveyed themselves to the partitioned city of Dasar, and made preparations to return to Daris.
Two months after the razing of the village the occupants of Daris returned, clearing out any remaining Varanite forces and quickly establishing a more fortified defense. It was at this time, during a period of lawlessnss and anarchy, that the then Brigadier of the Redboot Brigade Raeflyn E'doras declared martial law, consolidating active control over the kingdom of Dasaria.
E'doras retained control of Dasaria for several weeks, only suspending the declaration on the return of Queen Nelina I, the heir to the throne of Dasaria and the House of Siril. Nelina I returned to Dasaria at the head of a crusader army, and with it purged Dasar of its Nergalite partition. The capitol was reunited.
So began a renaissance for the kingdom of Dasaria under Nelina I. War-torn ruins were remade; a well-wrought road was constructed from Daris to the capital; outposts along the border and within the kingdom were re-erected. The kingdom, for the first time in many years, began the long road to repair and restoration of its former glory.
Queen Nelina I and the Fall
Nelina ruled for four short years before Dasaria was eventually subjugated in 583 M.A. In those fours years, as mentioned above, Dasaria was able to refortify its position at Dasar, rebuild the Dasar River Valley road, and strengthen its ties with other Dasarian cities and settlements.
However, for reasons unknown to the monarchy and the people of Dasaria, the attention of the Empire on the kingdom slowly began to focus more clearly. Thought to be key in the fall of Dasaria are the Claw, the personal shock-troops of the Emperor, the geomancers responsible for the destruction of Dasar's fortifications, and the disruption of Dasaria's ancient and long-lived Teleporter Obelisks. Some years before, an ancient tome, referred to only as the Book of Portals, became known to the people of Dasaria; it was recognized as containing the secrets of the ancient obelisks and how they functioned. The Book passed though many hands, including the Redboot Brigade, the Nergalites, the Dahakians and finally a resident nosferatu holed up in the hills surrounding Daris. Eventually, the book ended up in the hands of the Talon.
Shortly after the disappearance of the Book of Portals, the Talon began attacking Daris through portals. Suspiciously, the ancient network of teleporting obelisks began to malfunction and fall into disuse. No longer was the kingdom connected as it was, and instead such an advantage was now in the hands of the Empire.
It is well recorded that Dasar was besieged suddenly and without warning. There are theories as to how this was accomplished, a number of them referring to the long-forgotten Book of Portals.
Nelina I capitulated several months after her birthday, the day when Marcus IV launched his siege of the capitol. Very shortly after capitulation, Nelina was married to Marcus IV and became known as the Imperial Consort and Empress.
The Province of Dasaria
Dasaria has existed under Varanite imperial rule for over fifty years. In that time, the culture and religious beliefs of the kingdom have slowly shifted under the weight of Varanite pressure. Most notably, the pantheon has changed to reflect the Empire's theological disposition. Rather than the Tharon being worshiped as the king of the gods, Lochwar, the patron deity of tyranny and trickery, is instead revered. In addition to this shift of power, Rel and Tyrak, known to the Dasarians before as Utu and Girru, became outlawed as false deities. This may have been in response to the followers of those gods that provided such fierce resistance to the Empire.
Ideologically and economically speaking, the Empire also introduced the practice of slavery to the kingdom, and major sites of slave-trading takes place in Durace, Lancon and the city of Cear. Recently, due to Empress Nelina's taking residence in the city, the capital of Dasaria was shifted from Dasar to Cear.
Peace in the province has been uneasy; recently Canas the Risen has reared his head once more, this time leading an large host of undead soldiers, his intent to lay waste to the land. Defending Dasaria from destruction stands Princeps Siril II, the heir to the throne of Dasaria, and the son of Queen Nelina I and Emperor Marcus IV.
Recently stirrings of Dasarian loyalism have resurfaced; in 634 M.A. a group known as the The Alliance was formed, serving as a place where like-minded individuals could share ideas and thoughts on Dasarian independence. Long before the The Alliance the fledging Kingseeker Rebellion attempted to overthrow the Varanite yolk, though it was met with failure.
The latest incarnation of Dasarian loyalism stems from the Daybreak Alliance, it being a a group of former Argentum Vigilo knights embroiled in a conflict with Lochwarite neophytes, a conflict that has since developed into an full-scale independence movement.
